Lesson: Courage

Our lesson today was on courage. I think it is very important to have courage because of what we live in today. We need to have courage to do what we need to today. And we can have courage given to us throught the Lord.

Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Joshua 1:9)

Trunk-or-Treating

We didn't have mutual this week to encourage attendance at the trunk-or-treating. So here is the summary of the event as Mr. Grobe would put it.
The Good- lots of food, easy candy
The Bad- people ran out of candy
The Ugly- Kimmer threw up in the car (because she's allergic to the cashews, which of course were in the pop corn)

Special Testimony

Testimony meeting today was very touching. One of the testimonies I want to point out was Matthew Sorbe's. He said he was thankful that he could have so many non-member friends because that enabled him to be a missionary. That really touched me because we aren't generally thankful to be in a world where it is hard to keep the standards, but we should be grateful that we can share the gospel with others given our hard circumstances.

Young Women in Excellence

This is going to be so much fun! Come up with a way to present your efforts in Personal Progress over the last year in less than 2 minutes. Be creative and original! (This is not a sacrament meeting talk.) And don't stress.

Sis. Taylor will call everyone individually on Tuesday to schedule a time to film this. So we will NOT be meeting at the church building on Wednesday for mutual.

Lesson: Health

This week's lesson was on taking care of our physical body. It included nutrition, knowledge, rest, grooming, and exercise. We talked about each one and why we need it. We discussed blessings that come from following guidelines set for each of these, and consequences for not following them. And we conversed about how our bodies are not ours; they are on loan to us and we need to take extra special care of them. We set 5 goals, one for each topic, to work on this week.

Also, in Sunday School, our challenge was to remember two things from General Conference and find a favorite talk.

Lesson: Knowledge of Truth

This week's lesson was on finding for ourselves whether something was true or not. We talked about knowing the truth for ourselves, and not taking for granted that something was true. We must study, ponder, fast and pray, and do in order to really gain a testimony of the truth of something.

Lesson: Gaining a Body

Our lesson today was from Sis. Taylor on gaining a body and being challenged. We talked about what a blessing it is to have a body and come to this earth to experience it. As long as Satan doesn't have a body, we have control of him, not the other way around. We talked about being the most challenged generation, and how we have both the largest capacity for obedience and the greatest temptations. We talked about the temptations we are faced with, technology being the main subject of discussion. And we watched blue-green water turn clear with pure thoughts.

Centering Our Life on Christ

Our lesson today was on centering our life on Christ. It was a great back-to-school talk. Sis. Thorpe talked about organizing everything in our life so that Christ was in the center, and that after that, the rest of our activities will come into place.

Challenge of the Week

This week's challenge is to think of ways to serve others as a Beehive class. We (Jamie and me) were thinking about babysitting, serving the Winklers, and getting other ideas from Sis. Soderburg, who is now the Relief Society Compassionate Service Leader. We will talk about our ideas in the Presidency meeting.
Mutual this week is on Wednesday, at 7 SHARP. So leave the house by 6:50! We're doing commercials. Sis. Taylor has more details.

Temple Trip

Just a reminder that the stake temple trip is this Saturday, July 25th. Two young women leaders and several priesthood leaders will be coming. Look at the news for more information. Also remember this week's challenge is to bear your testimony.

Making Ice Cream

Yesterday night, we made ice cream in the kitchen. We also played the M&M game.

For ice cream, we put 1/2 cup of 2% milk, 1/4 tsp. vanilla, and 1 Tsp sugar in a plastic baggie, zipped it up, put it in a larger baggie with ice and rock salt, and shook it up!

Our hands were all freezing within a few minutes of shaking up the ice cream. We had quite a few screams of cold as some people put their hands on other people's arms. By the time our ice cream was ready, all of our hands and fingers were numb. REALLY NUMB.

But it was worth the ice cream.

And we had a few laughs with the M&M game.

Teaching Primary

I am really excited to teach a primary class on the 29th. I am teaching the CTR 5. It should be lots of fun. I'm really looking forward to being in charge of all those kids, and I am working hard preparing our lesson. I'm still working on what to give the kids as a treat, but that will probably be very last minute.
Our lesson is on the Holy Ghost. I can't wait to see what the kids will bring to the lesson and how the class will go. I love being around little kids; they always bring up interesting points that add to the lesson.

Road Show Practice

Right now, we are doing road show. That's when all the young men (yikes!) and young women get together and plan a 7-minute musical skit. It takes 7 hours to get 7 minutes! But the planning is fun and there are usually treats. :-) In the beginning of February, all the wards will come together and preform for each other.

This year's theme for the road shows is Aesop's Fables. So we are doing the Ants and the Grasshoppers. We have a few variations, such as that our grasshoppers are hippies and we have angels coming down and convincing the ants to let the grasshoppers in and the trees walk and the ants do stomp dances and the ants use food storage in very creative ways and.... and....
Well... you'll have to come see for yourself.
